book review: "the creation of patriarchy"
hera teleia, the perfected one
// Dec 22 • This morning we welcomed the first sunrise after the longest night of the year. And I can’t help thinking: We are still here. We are okay. We have made it this far. And there is still so much farther we can go...
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Wrote a new piece on my blog on creative lessons in the winter solstice. Link is in my bio now if you’d like to read it.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Happy new year, friends. ✨
• My Aquarius sun declares, “Life should feel like the burning of stars.”
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
My Taurus ascendant croons, “Life should feel like the lushness of velvet.”
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
My Cancer moon whispers, “Life should feel like the warmth of hearthfire.”
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Check. Check. Check. ✨
• How do you like to get your water in? 💦 I think we all heard growing up that we should aim to drink 8x 8oz cups of water every day. But let’s be honest, sometimes it’s so harrrd. Not to mention, straight-up water can get boring. (Only me? 🙇🏼‍♀️) How do you like drinking water? Do you do cold, hot, tea, with fruit, with herbs, fizzy, flat?
• one year ago today, we were stepping foot on the island of bali for a whole month away from obligations + expectations + workworkwork. i texted this to my husband today and he sent me back, “holy shit. we did that!”
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
i feel like it’s sooo easy to forget about the amazing things we’ve experienced when we’re in the trenches of a different season... is that just us weirdos, or does anyone else out there get it? 🤷🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
what’s something you’ve experienced that you think back on and are just amazed by?
• yeah, but — can fall just get here already? 🍁🍂 i always say my favorite season is the next~ one, ‘cause when it’s summer, i want fall, and once fall hits i’m ready for the coziness of winter, and by the middle of winter, i’m ready for spring to pop. (and summer can just generally suck it. #unpopularopinion) what’s your favorite season? 🌷🌻🍂❄️?
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
fall’s feeling like it’s right around the corner for us in this part of the world, and i’m all for it. it also doesn’t hurt that i get to jam with my online community to say goodbye to summer (and good riddance! no? still just me?) with our end-of-summer flash sale going down tomorrow on FB. 🙌🏼
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
send me a DM if you want to get in the private flash sale FB group in time for the cash-back sale on this mindset nutrition program i’ve been doing ... there’s also going to be a raffle to win a $100+ Target gift card 🛒⭕️ for anyone who gets started with our community tomorrow! i mean, i could use that for some new clothes that aren’t falling off me at this point. 😂
• if you’re just nurturing your spirit, it’s not enough. 🥀 reading the books, pulling the cards, doing the journaling and the meditating and the unraveling is all good. but what does that add up to if you’re still neglecting to care for your body? (did i just reveal my own journey? 🙈)
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
please hear me when i say it doesn’t have to be about losing weight or “fixing” anything with your body. (although, for some dealing with illness or health problems, those may be self-loving goals, too.) but honestly, how’s your relationship with food? 🍟🍫with alcohol? 🍺🍹 how’s your relationship with your own body, this human body here to convey you through this life experience? 🤸🏻‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
i started working on healing my relationship with food as a part of my spiritual journeying. it’s more than getting physically healthier; it’s going deeper to get soul-healthier. it’s about understanding that my body is an integral part of this experience i’m having as a human, + if i keep ignoring it out of fear (hello, teenage disordered-eating trauma) then i am ignoring a way to know myself better and to heal from the things that have kept me in fear for most of my life.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
i’m hosting a support + accountability group for people who want to try the mindset nutrition program i’ve been doing with me for 5 weeks. starting Sep 3, we’re going to focus on the food. (back to human basics, folks.) we’re going to learn how our bodies respond to some things as opposed to others. we are going to be more mindful and aware of our bodily experience.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
i will be with you everyday to support you, to encourage you, to provide help where i can, to remind you that you are so capable. and i will help you get connected to the amazing larger community that i’ve been able to be a part of that’s also working on their wellness.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
next friday, Aug 31, is the deadline to get enrolled in the program so we can all start on time on Sep 3.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
if you want me to send you the info, drop your favorite food 🥑🥨🌮 emoji(s) below.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
and if you’re just plain ol’ ready to join me on this journey (shut up + take my money! 😂), leave me a heart in your favorite color. 🖤
• i’m re-examining all the little things i do on the daily because, for better or worse, they have shaped my life. 😳 to be honest, this book is awfully redundant. it could easily have been half the size. but what it’s really helping me come face-to-face with is that the time i feel i don’t have to do the things i want my life to consist of ... that time exists. already. and i’m just filling it with other choices. and that’s not inherently ‘bad’ or ‘good’, it just is what it is. but that means i can’t blame anything or anyone anymore for the ways i feel my life is different from how i wish it were. some good rituals i’ve been incorporating into my life these days (in no particular order) include: 1) eating Real Food; 2) working out with my man; 3) reconnecting with old friends; 4) choosing at least one day a week for NO TV; 5) writing my thoughts down when i’m thinking them instead of waiting for a ‘more convenient time’ (lololol) later; 6) getting off all screens at least an hour before bed; 7) reading every day, even if it’s just a couple pages. these habits make my life *feel* better, not because they’re the ‘right’ things to do, but just because they make me feel good. what habits (or routines or rituals) do you do regularly that make you feel good? what things do you want to do more of + turn into habits?
